The event began with a brief welcome from the district administrator and a subsequent presentation by VU team leader Alexander Kersting. In the presentation, the team and the skills of the individual team members were briefly introduced. The team currently consists of eight police officers, a master mechanic and an expert. In the summer, the team will be reinforced by a surveying technician. The structure of the 17 accident teams in the country, the areas of responsibility and the special equipment were also explained in theory. So far, the OBK accident team has been called out to around 24 accidents. The first of these was at the Herne interchange. The furthest away was in the Hochsauerland district.
After the theory comes the practice and this is what the press representatives were most excited about. The accident team had recreated an accident between a car and a cyclist in the parking lot behind the building. This gave the members of the press the opportunity to take a close look at the equipment, from 3D scanners to drones, and to have the work explained and demonstrated to them.
